HSSP Architects and our client are delighted that we have secured planning permission for a bespoke housing development for six new dwellings on a pocket of land in a tranquil river bank setting, with ecological awareness and conservation at the fore.
The six new homes are a delightful mix of 3 and 4 bedroom houses with living, dining, and family areas, a kitchen, utility and study on the ground floor. Whilst upstairs there is a master suite with en-suite, additional bedrooms and a family bathroom. These are complemented with a pair of 2 bedroom bungalows that mirror each other and offer a kitchen and dining area, living room, bedrooms and a bathroom. Each property has a private garden front and rear, and car ports provide a link between some of the dwellings.
The site, home to a former small holding with disused agricultural buildings, required a change of use application from agricultural to residential. Ecological awareness was a priority for this project, with surveys and investigations undertaken for bats, otters, water voles and reptiles.
The new extensive sensitive landscaping includes retention of all existing trees with the new private driveway weaving its way through these. Existing hedges will be trimmed and coppiced, and be harmonised with the planting of specimen trees, ornamental plants, native structural planning mixes, lawn grasses, and tussock and wetland grasslands, which will create wildlife corridors and wild habitats.
Wildlife will be able to flourish and the area will prove to be a very pleasant communal space for residents and the wider neighbourhood as well. There are also new clean surface water pools for the newts should they fancy a new home too!
Brickwork and white render for the properties will be offset by slate roofs, with oak framed porches and timber external doors helping to create a more natural look and feel and contrast with elements of contemporary styling.
We very much look forward to seeing the development come to fruition. If you have a plot of land and would like to explore its potential, why not get in touch with us?
