Lydia Brant and Ben Foxley joined HSSP Architects in July 2021 for their year out placements having graduated from De Montfort University and The University of Nottingham respectively. They have totally different approaches to their work, but having joined on the same day, they have formed a close bond and have pooled their learning as they have progressed through their year.
Both have had an enjoyable time with HSSP; indeed they loved it so much they asked if they could stay a few months longer! They have learnt a lot, worked on lots of different projects across the stages of the RIBA Plan of Work which varied in complexity as their year progressed, and have thrived being part of a successful architectural studio team.
Lydia was really torn between not wanting to leave but at the same time wanting to progress with her Part 2 Masters degree having achieved a First in her Part 1. She finally decided to take the plunge and proceed with the next stages of her studies and will be returning to De Montfort University in October. Lydia is very creative with materials and textures and was the chief mastermind behind the origami bows for the HSSP entry into the Christmas Tree Festival last year. She has asked if she can carry on doing ad-hoc work for us; we know what one job will be for her around Christmas time…!
Ben is the first one to admit he is indecisive and has not been sure what he wanted to do next. Having had a more hands on experience of the building industry through his family, he thought about pursuing a project management career pathway, however working in an architectural practice has widened his horizons and given him the chance to see both sides of the construction coin. He has enjoyed the progressive learning and realises there is so much more he can learn about the architectural landscape. He therefore too has decided to progress with his Part 2 Masters degree.
It has been a joy to have them as part of the team and we wish them both every success.
