Located in a conservation area within the historic medieval core of the village of Rothley, the site is surrounded by existing properties and neighbouring listed buildings. Site safety was paramount due to its on-street location and access near a busy junction.
Our design concept drew inspiration from the character and materials of the local conservation area. The building was designed with an asymmetric roofline to ensure its height was set at a similar level to adjacent properties.
To allow for undercroft parking and to reduce the overall height and impact, the building was sunk below the original foundations and tanked where necessary. Considerate placement of windows was compensated by high level roof glazing within the open vaulted ceilings.
The impressive new building is a positive addition to the village centre, adding modern, much needed accommodation and parking while sympathetically sitting within the conservation area.
