The site is to be the pinnacle of a new vision for Leicester City Hockey Club that also supports community participation. The ‘masterplan’ for the site includes an innovative new pavilion and changing facilities, thereby opening doors to new funding opportunities. We’re also managing the development process.
Having recently acquired the site lease for St Margaret’s Pastures Sports Centre, Leicester City Hockey Club’s vision is to create a multi-sport hub of the highest quality and provide the best facilities to the local community. The centre is located on the edge of Abbey Park, meaning the scheme has to have minimum impact on the vistas.
Project planning is key. During the building phase, the pitch cannot be damaged and the other 5-a-side pitches, part of the original sports centre, cannot be disrupted.
To ensure the income stream is protected, the development will proceed in 3 phases. The first phase being to update the large pitch to a ‘wet’ pitch suitable for the highest level of the game, which will allow the first team to be moved over to this site.
The second and third phases will be the construction of a new pavilion and clubhouse. This has been designed as a 2 storey clubhouse to minimise footprint and maximize efficiency, including offices and training rooms above the ground floor changing rooms, to widen the revenue potential of the site.
The client desires high eco performance to ensure low running costs and environmental considerations. The roof of the clubhouse has been designed as a living roof to ensure the finished building has as little impact on the surrounding area as possible.
