HSSP Architects are strong supporters of local clubs and the Early May Bank Holiday weekend saw the Under 13’s team from Ashby Rugby Football Club head off on their end of season tour to Weymouth & Portland Rugby Football Club.
This was the team’s first solo tour and a momentous occasion for the U13’s. They were treated to terrific hospitality by W&PRFC, who were also busily hosting several other touring clubs the same weekend.
The tour took on a military theme, with the players rugby shirts and hoodies, and hoodies for the adults, adorned in camouflage in the club’s colours, which were sponsored jointly by HSSP Architects and MV Kelley Ltd Civil Engineering Contractors.
With 18 children, and 30 or so additional siblings and parents making up the full tour squad, they headed to their hosts for the evening, Cumulus Outdoor activity centre in Swanage. This was the perfect place to be as the accommodation was really nice, the food was delicious and the evening was spent around the fire pit, telling stories and having fun whilst toasting marshmallows. A day at the beach followed on Saturday – a great way for the children to let off steam.
The big game took place on Sunday – our team did us proud and triumphed with the score 4-7. They enjoyed lunch with their hosts and then it was back to base camp and time for the notorious “Kangaroo Court (Marshall)” – ‘stand by your beds’! All in good jest, any silly/notable events are brought up and ‘fines/challenges’ are handed out as result. As with all infamous rugby tours ‘what goes on tour stays on tour’ so alas they have not divulged the details to us!!!
We hear a fantastic time was had by everyone, with the bus journey on the way home a lot quieter than on the way down, being full of tired sleepy children and parents!
It has been a pleasure for HSSP to support our local star team and we wish them all the best for the new season once it is upon us.
